MEET STACIE
I am happily married to my husband David, and together we have two beautiful daughters who were born in a hospital birthing center. Rhode Island natives we moved just over the border to Connecticut in 2001, when I was pregnant with our first daughter. In college, my intentions were to become a counselor, but that all changed after I gave birth. The process transformed me, and after having a wonderful doula for my second birth I decided that I too, wanted to support women during this great rite of passage. I found that having doula support enhanced my overall experience, and made it easier for my husband to support me. It was a comfort to know that she was there to provide me with whatever I needed to give birth in a way that was right for me.
PHILOSOPHY
Every woman is unique, every baby is unique, and so every birth is unique in its unfolding. It is important that any decisions you make about your care, and about the care of your baby, are true informed and conscious decisions. I will support whatever your individual informed decisions may be, regarding your birth experience. I believe birth to be a sacred and natural process, not a medical event (even when things occur requiring medical assistance).
I believe home birth to be a safe option for healthy women who desire to birth at home. I strive to provide my clients with current information, non-judgmental support, comfort, and encouragement as they embark on their new journey to motherhood, or motherhood again using their inner wisdom.
EDUCATION
I graduated from Rhode Island College, with a B.A. in Psychology, where much of my focus was women and families. I received my initial labor doula training through CAPPA, in March 2005, and became a Certified Labor Doula (CLD) in 2007. Additional training was received through ALACE. I am always continuing my education by attending workshops and conferences every year. I most recently completed my training through PBi and have since become a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist & Mentor.
